Croall and Haynes Win Tandem Nationals

Unigraph Design 2009 National Tandem sprint Championships

A scorching hot sunny day was matched by equally scorching and close racing in the 2009 Unigraph Design National Tandem Sprint Championships.

Coming out on top today as National Champions were the new pairing of Bruce Croall and Matthew Haynes City of Edinburgh RC, beating Ben Elliot VC St Raphael and John Saysell PCA Ciclos Uno 2-0 in the final.

The ride off for bronze was much closer and had some really tight exciting tandem sprinting requiring the photo finish to split Dave Readle and Simon Jackson SIS.COM from veteran Peter Boyd and David Heald of VC St Raphael. In the end Dave Readle and Simon Jackson SIS.COM beat the experienced Boyd and Heald 2-1.

Unigraph Design Midland and North Region Omnium - Newcastle Round

What can I say, the standard of racing in all categories was fantastic as the Newcastle Track team put on another well managed Omnium meeting. The North and Midlands riders rode together for the prize money on the day, then the overall results were split into the respective regions.

With racing lasting from 11am to 6pm there were many races to talk about so I'll pick out some highlights of the day. Full results, times and placings are included in the spreadsheet in the drop-down menu.

U16 Boys

Matt Rotheram of Sport City Velo just did enough to beat Rob Lambton Brook Cycles for overall honours in the U16 boys category. They got 11 points each and it came down to the Keiren win for the fast Rotheram to win on count back. Rotheram was extremely lucky as he came within 20 meters of being lapped in the points race after some strong riding which would have wrecked his overall chances.

Declan Burn of Brooks Cycles won a mass bunch sprint to win the U16 boys scratch race, whilst team mate Rob Lambton of Brooks Cycles did the ride of the meeting to scorch around the 800m TT in a time of 55.8 seconds, over 2 seconds quicker then 2nd placed Declan Burn.

U16 Girls

Jessica Crampton Sport City Velo showed she has a great sprint just like her brother Matt and used this to good effect to win the girls under 16 Omnium from Hannah Manley of Cardiff CC.

U14 Boys

Jacob Ragan of Sport City Velo won all 4 events in the U14 boys Omnium and dominated the event.

U14 Girls

As did the talented Emily Kay from HALESOWEN A & CC who also got a clean sweep of 4 1st places to dominate the U14 girls event.

U12 and U10 Girls and Boys

Joel Partington of Eastlands Velo had a close fought battle with Megan Barker and Emily Haycox both Maindy Flyers to win the U12 Omnium, whilst Jessica Roberts came out on top with a clean sweep of 4 wins to win the U10 Girls and Boys Omnium.

So a big thank you to the helpers, riders, parents and sponsors in making the event happen on Sunday. We made a great effort and we were rewarded with great weather and a great day of racing after rain on the 17th May.

Special mentions to the brains at the nerve centre - Sue Robinson, Bob Pinkerton, Barbara Emadi, Rik Notley, Chris Pyatt and Mark Barry along with our sign on refreshments and raffle team.

Thanks to Stoke City Council for the T-Shirts - they went down really well with the riders.

And a big thank you to Unigraph Design for sponsoring the event, We can't do this without your support.

Hot sunny days at the track are what it is all about!

Go-Ride Activites

George Shaw

The sessions will be aimed at children who cannot yet ride the track, with mainly the under 10s targetted, but also any older riders who need some extra bike skills before riding on the track.

The Go-Ride activities will include riding around cones, under limbo bars and various other skill based routes. We feel that this will attract a number of riders who compete at the Freewheelers League

Riders will be asked to bring their own bikes which can be MTB, Road or BMX along with a suitable helmet. The cost for the session will be £2 and will start at 6.30pm lasting around 1 hour to 1 hour 30 mins
