 27rd July 2010: After last weeks meeting was cut short due to rain the forecast did not look good for this weeks round of the Newcastle-under-Lyme Track League at Lyme Valley Stadium in Staffordshire, however the rain never came and the good turnout of riders across all leagues had a full nights racing. The highlight of the night was the “Neil Potter sponsored Handicap League” where there was a blanket finish as the judges had their work cut out to place all six riders. Coming from a back mark, A-Class leader Matthew Rotherham, Sportcity Velo showed a great turn of speed to take a narrow win from the improving Tim Hull, Lyme RC and Jess Wieckowski Team Nemisis. Matt dominated the A Class events as he won the opening 8 lap scratch and the 10 mile scratch along with being a member of the winning team sprint team. The B Class races saw Ryan Whatmough extend his lead in the overall table which now looks unassailable. He won the Course de primes and the 10 mile scratch along with a second place in the devil. Other B-Class wins came from Sam Birchall, Lyme RC in the devil and Neil Cummins taking the 8 lap scratch. The youth events saw a great turnout of 17 riders with the points spaced out over a large number of riders. Louis Preston Lyme RC won the opening 200m TT and Alex Braybrooke, Sportcity Velo, held on in fine style to take the block handicap race. Joel Partington, Lyme RC won the devil and he was also a member of the winning team sprint team. The Freewheelers as usual produced some spirited riding with some great bike skills displayed from the young riders. In the main league there was only the Youth 200m TT where Louis Preston of Lyme RC took the fastest time followed by Alex Webb in second and Joel Partington and George Edwards tied for third, all for Lyme RC. The only senior race was a combined A & B race with A Class leader Matthew Rotherham of Sportcity Velo winning from Ryan Whatmough and Paual Whatmough of Shepherd Cycles. The Freewheelers races saw 13 riders take part with Ashleigh Williams, Lyme RC the top scorer in Group one as she took 11 points from her 3 wins. In the Group 2 races Bradley Hill, Lyme RC scored 11 points also as he showed great form as he won 3 races also. In Group 3 Dylan Brownson, Lyme RC top scored with the popular score of 11 points as he won 3 races.
