 1st July 2010: With the forecast of rain for the evening hopes were not high of any racing at all for the latest round of the Newcastle-under-Lyme Track League at Lyme Valley Stadium. However the rain held off until the final 10 mile event which had to be stopped at half distance as the heavens opened. The A Class events saw Declan Byrne start to make his move on the overall league table. His main targets this year has been on the road however the increase in speed work over the past few weeks is starting to show as he scored wins in the 10 lap scratch and the Course de Primes. He was also a member of the winning Team Sprint Team. The Neil Potter sponsored 500m Handicap League saw long marker Tim Hull, Lyme RC hold on impressively to his advantage to take the win from Barney Swinnerton, Lyme Rc and Ryan Whatmough, Shepherd Cycles. Discuss this story in our Forum by Clicking Here In the B Class events Ryan Whatmough continued his good form as he won the 8 lap scratch, course de primes and a member of the winning team sprint. The Ladies Sprint event saw a close finish with Lisa Daly, Sportcity Velo holding off Youth B rider Paige Millward of Lyme RC. The youth events saw a great turnout of 17 riders. The top point’s scorer was Will Thomas, Sportcity Velo as he won the scratch and he was a member of the winning team sprint. The other winners in these races were Louis preston ,Lyme RC who put in a quick standing 400m standing start of 30.74 and Thomas Rotherham, Sportcity Velo who won the 1000m block handicap. In the Freewheelers League the attendance was a healthy twenty riders with some very close races in all age groups. Every rider is improving each week with the 200m time trial times getting faster each week.
